How to Get mina perhonen’s “Shopper” and “Bird Charm” — Conditions and Types Explained
Where do you usually shop for mina perhonen?
I imagine it varies depending on where you live, but for me, based in the Kansai area, I usually shop at:
- mina perhonen Kyoto
- Isetan Closet at Lucua Osaka (the mina perhonen store that used to be in Hankyu Umeda has since closed)
- Casué de mi in Kobe
Other than that, I mostly rely on the online store.
However, did you know that when you shop at mina perhonen’s directly operated stores (excluding the online store), there’s actually a little “perk”?

- How Can You Get mina perhonen’s Shopper?
- How Can You Get mina perhonen’s Charm?
Some of you may be wondering about this, so this time, I’ll take a closer look at the “shopper” (fabric shopping bag) and the “charm” that you can receive at mina perhonen’s directly operated stores 🙂
What Items Can You Get?
The staff will select the size to match the item you’ve purchased.
Personally, I leave everything up to them—such as the size and color of the bag, as well as the shape of the forest parade motif—but some people may prefer to choose more specific details.
How Big Is the Bag?
I have shoppers in three sizes—large, medium, and small.
(This is based on the ones I own, so there may be other sizes as well.)

Below is a photo where I aligned the bottom right corners.

The color may look different from the first photo due to the lighting, but it’s the same item.
I also measured the sizes!
- Large: 39 × 53 cm
- Medium: 34 × 42 cm
- Small: 28 × 36 cm
- Off-white
- Gray

The bag is made of 100% cotton.
How It Looks on Someone 160 cm Tall
Here’s how they look when carried by someone who is 160 cm tall.
<Size comparison when worn on the arm>

<Difference in size when worn over the shoulder>
All sizes have long enough straps to be worn over the shoulder 🙂

About the Motif
Here is an example of the various motif shapes.
They are not removable and are sewn together with the mina perhonen tag.

- Off-white
- Beige
- Charcoal
- Navy (or Black?)

According to a fellow mina friend, when it comes to the motif, you may sometimes be able to gently express a preference—like saying you’d like a butterfly or a bird.
Of course, this likely depends on how busy the staff are, but if there’s a motif you’re particularly drawn to, it might be worth asking 🙂
Are There Any Conditions, Such as a Minimum Purchase Amount?

In the past, I once purchased a pair of socks and two fabric scrap sets, but since the total was under ¥5,000 (before tax), I wasn’t able to receive a shopper bag > <
The “¥5,000 or more (before tax)” condition isn’t something that’s prominently announced in-store, so I imagine there may be others who, like me, only realize it afterward and feel a little disappointed.
How Do You Receive the Charm?
If you bring your mina shopper bag with you next time and decline a new one for that purchase, you may receive a charm (in the shape of a bird).
This also follows the same “declining the shopper bag” condition, so a purchase of ¥5,000 or more (before tax) is required.
The charm is made with a felt-like fabric, with the textile applied on top.
Of course, it’s lovely attached to a shopper bag, but some people also use it as an ornament, especially during the Christmas season 🙂
Here, I’d like to share a charm owned by a fellow mina friend 🙂
(Thank you so much for kindly sharing the photo!)

The charms you receive are generally random.
That said, some customers ask,
“What kinds of charms are available today?”
and are able to take a look.
If you’d prefer not to receive one you already have, or if there’s a particular textile you’re hoping for, it might be worth asking a staff member.

Every time I visit the store, I somehow end up forgetting to bring my mina shopper bag from home, so I’ve never actually received a charm…
If you’d like to get one, just be sure not to forget to bring your mina shopper with you!
[Latest 2026] Shopper Bags and Charms Now Available with the Kids’ Line “cabbage”
On February 4, 2026, there was some exciting news: the kids’ line cabbage has also started offering the same service—where you can receive a shopping bag, and later a charm through reusing it.
The conditions are exactly the same as for the main line.
With a purchase of ¥5,000 or more (before tax) from the kids’ line (cabbage), you can receive a charming shopping bag featuring soft pastel colors.
Then, if you bring that bag with you for your next purchase of ¥5,000 or more and choose to reuse it (by declining a new shopper), you’ll receive a cute caterpillar-shaped charm as a token of appreciation.
I was honestly surprised to see such a thoughtful gesture extended to the kids’ line as well.
It adds a new joy—sharing and cherishing mina items together as a family—and makes me fall even more in love with the brand.

In Summary
What did you think?
There are quite a few small details and rules that aren’t always widely known.
This time, I introduced how to receive mina’s shopper bags and charms.

If you have a store nearby, I highly recommend shopping at a directly operated store!
