Captivated by “Wild Berry”: Why this Oldman’s Tailor Stole is a Must-Have for Minä Fans

If you love minä perhonen, you might have spotted their charming monochrome “strawberry pattern” at select shops.

The tag actually reads “R&D.M.Co-“, which can feel a bit mysterious (lol). However, fans affectionately call the brand “Oldmans.” Today, I’d like to share my love for the “Wild Berry” stole—the only item outside of minä that I fell in love with at first sight.

Based in Fujiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, this brand was created by Mr. Yuji Shimura and his wife, Tomiko. Their high-quality, "Made in Japan" linens and cottons, woven using the pristine spring water from Mount Fuji, are immensely popular among fashion enthusiasts.

Just like minä perhonen, they focus on artisanal craftsmanship and creating original fabrics from scratch, which makes mass production impossible. Their items truly resonate with those who want to cherish and use things for a long time.

This is a bit complicated, and even as I’m writing this, I find myself getting confused… (Feel free to skip this part if it feels too complex!)

The Wild Berry stole (shawl) measures 105cm × 105cm. For those accustomed to the Hermès cashmere-silk shawl (commonly known as “Kashishiru”), which is 140cm × 140cm, this might feel a bit small at first.

However, once you actually wrap it around your neck, you’ll find the size is absolutely exquisite. It settles perfectly around the neckline without feeling over-the-top. It has that “just right” volume for daily use.

Oldman’s Tailor primarily offers this pattern in the following two sizes:

WILD BERRY GAUZE SHAWL — What colors are available?

The Wild Berry Gauze Shawl is mainly available in these three colors:

• black × white
• black × flax
• black × navy

At first glance, “white” and “flax” look very similar, but flax is a calmer tone, closer to “beige or ecru” than pure white. Since the contrast is softer than the “black × white” version, I recommend choosing flax when you want the shawl to blend gently and softly into your outfit.

On the other hand, when you want to brighten up your face and add a touch of glamour, or when you want a “sharp accent” for a monochrome look, choosing the high-contrast “black × white” is perfect. It ensures your features don’t look washed out and gives off a crisp, sophisticated impression. By the way, if you’re feeling more like navy than black, the “black × navy” is also incredibly elegant and wonderful.
